Protect Our Children

No West Australian accepts vulnerable children living in squalor like what we saw at Frisby Court.
The shocking revelations of more than a dozen children — some as young as five — living unsupervised in a state-owned house in South Hedland have exposed the state of our child protection system under WA Labor, and have rightly outraged the WA community.
After going to Frisby Court and listening to the locals in South Hedland, we’re calling on the Premier to immediately take five steps:
1. Bring back a standalone Department of Child Protection
2. Sack the Child Protection Minister and put a capable senior minister in charge
3. Hold a coronial inquest into the deaths of the three Hawke children
4. Permanently increase staffing at the South Hedland child protection office
5. Extend the Children’s Commissioner for another 12 months, with special inquiry powers
This isn’t about politics: Children’s lives are at stake. The Premier should show some leadership and implement these fixes as a priority.
