Delivering my local plan for Churchlands
My family and I are part of this community and committed to our future.
After 30 years in broadcasting and leadership roles including as the twice-elected Lord Mayor of the City of Perth, I am ready to bring the same passion, commitment and energy to serve you in Churchlands.
As part of the Mettam Liberal Team, I will deliver real solutions for Churchlands, driven by the right priorities to build a better future.
Meeting so many locals during this campaign has been a privilege, and your feedback has shaped my local plan.

I haven’t met a single person in the electorate of Churchlands who doesn’t understand the need for greater density.
We need more places to live but any development must be in keeping with the character and amenity of the local area, and must respect the public consultation which has informed the local planning strategies.
The idea that the Western Suburbs should pay the price for the current state government’s poor planning on housing is outrageous and I will always fight against ad hoc development.
Sensible development in the right areas is fine, a 23-story tower opposite a primary school is not. Together, we have sent a clear message that residents’ voices deserve to be heard.
SENSIBLE PLANNING AND DENSITY

Car break-ins, stealing, vandalism, anti-social behaviour.
I’m hearing it all, all the time. Crime is surging in our suburbs. Stealing in Innaloo increased 42% from 2017 to 2023, and property damage increased 38% in Glendalough over the same time. I hear your safety concerns loud and clear. You’ve told me you want increased policing, extended opening hours for local police stations, more feet on the beat and better conditions for our hard-working men and women in the WA Police Force, and so do I.
The Liberals’ $500 million Community Policing commitment will deliver all of these measures and more.
SAFETY IN CHURCHLANDS

No-one feels better off under this Labor Government, with its wrong priorities and big spending.
I’m hearing the same thing – it’s so expensive to live now. Rising bills, rising costs and no relief. I hear you and that’s why easing living pressures is one of my top local priorities. The Liberals’ plan for stamp duty relief will help the next generation achieve home ownership and targeted reductions like our energy tax cuts, will ease the burden on household budgets.
In my time as Lord Mayor, the City of Perth has consistently delivered the lowest rate rises of any major metropolitan Council, and I have always fought the Labor Government’s unfair fees and charges like the Parking Levy.
COST-OF-LIVING RELIEF

Only the WA Liberals will build the new Women and Babies Hospital at the QEII Medical Centre in Nedlands.
When every second counts, newborns in immediate danger should not have to make the trek down the freeway to Murdoch. The health system is in disarray under Labor. In opposition, Roger Cook said 1,000 hours of ambulance ramping was a crisis, but WA hasn’t had less than 1,000 hours in a month since April 2020 – and we suffer because of it. The Liberals’ $100 million Elective Guarantee Surgery will allow local residents to access timely and essential care.
Our plan will also tackle excessive wait times, expand in-home and community health care services and ease pressure on Emergency Departments.
HEALTH AS A CHURCHLANDS PRIORITY

I am committed to the foundations that drive success in education.
With thousands of students attending 17 government and non-government schools in our community, local parents and teachers tell me the school environment is more complex than ever. That’s why we must resource every facet of the educational journey and it’s why I’ve made a $400,000 commitment to help Churchlands Senior High School build the entry statement it deserves, and a further $200,000 commitment to build a new space to support student wellbeing.
Our government school facilities should be contemporary and be a feature of our suburbs.
INVESTMENT IN OUR SCHOOLS

As a dad with an active young family, I see first-hand how important community and sporting clubs are to building community spirit.
Family-friendly, inclusive spaces encourage connection and social interaction. Visiting clubs like the Leederville Bowlo, Cambridge Bowls and Matthews Netball Centre, I hear a common message - while regular busy-bees go a long way, substantial improvements are needed to help these clubs grow and stay relevant.
That’s why I have committed $200,000 to the Leederville Sporting Club, and $50,000 for a new outdoor paved area and shade sail covers at the Cambridge Bowling Club.
