Meet Basil
As Leader of the Opposition since March 2025, Basil is a passionate advocate for Western Australia – driven by the belief that everyone, no matter where they live, deserves the opportunity to succeed.
He leads an energised team of Shadow Ministers and MPs focused on holding the Government to account and advancing our State in the best interests of all Western Australians.
Before entering State Parliament, Basil was Lord Mayor of the City of Perth and built a respected 30-year career as a prominent journalist and media commentator.
In the Shadow Cabinet, Basil holds responsibility for the key portfolios of State Development; Trade and Investment; and Citizenship and Multicultural Interests.
Basil is guided by a clear set of principles:
